Happy Birthday! The Technical Corner I called Russ Stripay about the show and mentioned my problem which Russ correctly |
and quickly
diagnosed as a return spring which, on my car, is
attached to hole by the power steering unit with the
other end attached to the carburetor. Sure 'nuff, when I
looked, I found a broken spring that was new when JFK was
president. At Hi-Lo Auto I picked up a replacement for $2.48 including tax. I bent one end with needle nose pliers, and the other with standard pliers, attached the ends, and in a matter of minutes I was on the road again. It was an inconvenience but considering the alternative, I got off lightly. I urge all who own carburetored cars to check this spring and to replace it if it looks even slightly old. $2.48 can't buy better piece of mind. Thanks, Russ! The

Upon completion, it was tested on Detroit freeways. Manuals, spare parts and a selection of 8-track tapes were placed in the car. It was then loaded on a military transport at Selfridge AFB for the long journey overseas." |
